DMZ Guild Meet Summer 2010

I have decided to start building up this section of the wiki to keep track of who is interested in the guild meet as well as link any relevant information regarding travel, accommodation etc

Locations

So far the main competitor is Swansea

Transport

  1. Trains - Swansea Station is pretty much in the town Center. You can either walk or get a taxi to most of the main hotels or we can arrange for me to give people a lift where possible.
  2. Planes
    • Cardiff - This airport is about forty minutes from Swansea, I can pick up one or two people if needed in my car or we can try to time it so people who are driving past can take a detour to pick you up.
    • Heathrow & Gatwick - For some of you traveling from further afield it may be more cost effective to fly to one of the major airports and get a train to Swansea. Heathrow is easy as the train line is more direct, only changing at one or two major stations. If you travel to Gatwick you will have to use the underground to cross London.
  3. Automobiles - Swansea sits on the end of the M4. Once we have a full list of who is traveling from where we can look at car sharing, I am also happy to help people with route planning if they want.
  4. Bus - Similar to getting the train just head to Swansea and you will end up in the town center and we can get you to hotels from there.
  5. Walking - I wouldn't recommend this option.

Accommodation

The Dragon Hotel - Situated directly in the town center opposite Crossfire and spitting distance from the main drinking area. Limited parking and looks like they may have put the prices up since they refurbished it.

The Dolphin Hotel - Again in the town center, recently refurbished. Not a bad budget option although no parking.

Morgan's Hotel - A bit pricey but good location, parking and high quality.

Marriott Hotel - Not heard much about this but it looks ok.

Bed and Breakfasts - Here is a list of B&B's to look through.

There is the possibility that Sarah and I could put up one or two people but this would have to be discussed based on who it was and why. For example if someone coming from further away was struggling with the fact their travel was going to cost more than the whole event for some people. Obviously we can't take everyone and we would get the final say in if we put people up and who.

The Agenda

If you have ideas for the Agenda feel free to post them and I will make it up as we go along.

Friday

Arrive in time for evening drinks

Saturday

Lunchtime BBQ

Evening Gaming at Crossfire

Followed by more drinking?

Sunday

All day drinking in Swansea

Monday

Travel Home

Other Ideas

  • Tour T-Shirts
  • Pre-Tour Recon Mission: Basically if anyone who lives a bit closer wants to help me and Sarah scout out some good pubs one weekend
  • Sitdown Meal
  • Fancy Dress
  • Bowling
  • Laser Zone
  • essay writing
  • Oakwood
  • Mumbles Farmer's Market - Would require a certain weekend

All ideas welcome, the crazier the better (no Jereth we cant all put our keys in a bowl at the end of the night)

Sit Down Meal

Just to see if this idea is viable (or of any interest to people) I thought a section for people to put their views in would be handy.

Once you have said you are available (because to be honest if your not coming your views on this are of no interest to me) can you please just put down whether you would be interested in an organised sit down meal, what sort of food you do or don't like (if you have a medical reason for not eating something probably good to know) and roughly what sort of price range you would consider acceptable. For price I will assume we are just talking about the food as otherwise it gets a bit complicated.

So put your thoughts down, obviously as it may turn out to be a big group booking early will give us a better choice of places.

  • Archanfel - Will eat pretty much anything
